Launch of North West Low-Carbon Research and Development Programme
The aim of the North West Low-Carbon Research and Development Programme is to enable businesses to develop and make the transition to a lower carbon economy.
Businesses will benefit from an intensive three-year programme of funded research and development (R&D) with Lancaster University. The value of the support on offer is up to £100,000. Businesses will be asked to contribute up to £5,500 per year towards the costs of their researcher.
Shorter-term funded projects, internships, product development, technology assessment and guidance, consultancy, innovation workshops, and a wide range of other projects and facilities are also available.
The scheme is open to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the North West of England.
Each successful business will be matched with an appropriately skilled graduate with a background in biological science, environmental science, engineering, chemistry, computing, communications, geography, maths, physics, or statistics, to take their research idea forward full time and explore it intensively over three years. Each graduate researcher will be fully supported and supervised by leading researchers, further extending their R&D capacity.
Businesses that will be supported will recognise the need for innovation and have identified growth opportunities for their business through the development of new products, processes and services for the global marketplace that have positive environmental benefits.
Businesses may have a low carbon research idea that will help to grow the company. The Centre’s funded research projects give them the chance to pursue these opportunities.
New products and services developed by the centre should offer significant, measurable improvements against existing products in terms of the emission of greenhouse gases, use of natural resources and/or waste minimisation and re-use. The provider is particularly looking for projects which can demonstrate how their support can address the “transition towards a “low carbon” economy in all sectors. Therefore it will seek to track the project back to quantifiable CO2 gas or equivalent savings.
The first 2017 deadline is 30 April 2017.
